Watson debuted the #HeForShe movement in September 2014 at the UN Headquarters in New York. #HeForShe is a “solidarity movement for gender equality” aimed at mobilizing men and boys in an effort to spark a conversation about and support for a more equal world.

On March 2, Watson announced the #HeForShe Facebook Live in a native video on her Facebook Page, which recently passed 30M fans. The video has received over 17.8M views to-date. In the video, she invites fans to ask questions and apply to win tickets to the Facebook Live.

The live event featured Facebook fan questions on topics ranging from gender inequality to feminism, the lack of gender parity across industries, and societal pressures for conformity.

Immediately following the #HeForShe Facebook Live, Watson posted four short native video clips from the event. In the first 24 hours, the videos have been viewed over 3M times.

Fans ask Emma her thoughts on the ways to address gender equality

“You’re not going to get rid of me until I get to see an equal number of female Prime Ministers, and Presidents, and CEOs and more men that actually feel like it’s ok to express how they really feel about things, and more fathers that are present in their children’s lives.”
